Robot overview

TALOS is an adult-sized humanoid (175 cm, 95 kg) engineered for sustained industrial power. Unlike "position-controlled" robots that can be rigid and dangerous around humans, TALOS features Full Torque Sensor Feedback in every joint (except the head and wrists). This makes it inherently "compliant"—it can feel external forces and react dynamically, allowing it to work safely alongside humans in tight spaces like aircraft fuselages or ship hulls.

Running on a high-speed EtherCAT network (2kHz to 5kHz control loops), TALOS is one of the most reactive humanoids on the market. It is specifically built to handle heavy industrial tools and perform tasks that are physically damaging to human workers, such as overhead drilling, grinding, and heavy part positioning.

Key
Technical Breakthroughs
  • Torque-Controlled Precision: Every major joint utilizes torque sensors rather than just position encoders. This allows TALOS to perform "multi-contact" motions—such as leaning against a wall for stability while using a heavy drill - a feat that rigid humanoids struggle to replicate.
  • Heavy Tool Payload: TALOS is designed for industrial utility, offering a 6 kg (13 lbs) payload per arm even when the arm is fully extended. This allows it to manipulate real-world industrial power tools without losing balance.
  • 5 kHz Control Frequency: The EtherCAT backbone allows for extremely low-latency communication between the "brain" and the joints. This enables TALOS to catch its balance or adjust its grip in near-real-time when a tool slips or a floor surface changes.
  • Modular "Plug-and-Play" Architecture: The head and grippers are fully customizable. In 2026, PAL Robotics offers specialized "End-Effector Packs" for tasks ranging from 3D-scanning inspections to high-torque fastener installation.
Deployment
+ Scalability
  • European Industrial Standard: TALOS is currently a centerpiece of the EUROBENCH project and is being deployed in major European aerospace and shipyard pilots (e.g., Airbus) to automate "non-ergonomic" assembly stages.
  • Enterprise Software Stack: Unlike "black box" competitors, TALOS is fully developed in ROS (Robot Operating System) and supports MoveIt! and Gazebo out of the box. This allows industrial engineers to integrate TALOS into existing digital twin workflows with minimal friction.
  • Research to Industry Pipeline: While it remains a staple in top-tier labs (e.g., LAAS-CNRS), PAL Robotics has streamlined its 2026 production to support "Industrial Fleet" orders, providing 24/7 technical support and on-site maintenance contracts.
  • 2026 "Kangaroo" Synergy: PAL Robotics has begun integrating locomotion algorithms from their newer KANGAROO platform into TALOS, significantly improving its "free-walking" stability in cluttered, high-traffic factory environments.
