Robot overview

The 2026 Atlas is a complete departure from the hydraulic prototypes of the past decade. Now fully electric and designed for mass production in partnership with Hyundai, Atlas is a "work-first" humanoid built for 24/7 autonomous operation. It is currently being integrated into the Hyundai Robotics Metaplant and Google DeepMind facilities to perform high-precision industrial tasks.

Unlike humanoids that try to mimic human limitations, Atlas utilizes 360-degree rotating joints to move with a "superhuman" efficiencyswiveling its torso and limbs to navigate tight spaces without turning its feet. Managed via the Orbit™ fleet software, Atlas integrates seamlessly into existing Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), making it a "plug-and-play" labor solution for the modern factory.

Key
Technical Breakthroughs
  • Superhuman Kinematics: 56 degrees of freedom (DoF) featuring fully rotational "swivel" joints. This allows Atlas to pick up a payload behind it and face forward simultaneously, maximizing throughput in cramped work cells.
  • Heavy-Lift Capability: Engineered for industrial strength, Atlas can perform "sustained" lifts of 66 lbs (30 kg) and "instant" lifts of up to 110 lbs (50 kg), far exceeding the ergonomic safety limits of human workers.
  • Autonomous Energy Management: The first enterprise humanoid to feature autonomous battery swapping. When low on power, Atlas navigates to a swap station, replaces its own battery, and returns to work in under 90 seconds.
  • DeepMind AI Integration: Through a strategic partnership with Google DeepMind, Atlas utilizes Large Behavior Models (LBMs) to reason through complex, unscripted tasks, such as clearing a jammed conveyor or sorting diverse, unscheduled parts

Deployment
+ Scalability
  • Immediate Manufacturing: Production began in early 2026 at Boston Dynamics’ dedicated facility, with the supply chain optimized by Hyundai’s automotive expertise.
  • Committed Fleets: The initial 2026 production run is fully committed to Hyundai’s Metaplant America (for parts sequencing) and Google DeepMind (for AI training).
  • Global Availability: General commercial orders for the "Early Adopter Fleet" are scheduled to begin shipping in early 2027, targeting industries like automotive assembly, heavy logistics, and hazardous waste management.
  • Environmental Resilience: Built for the "real" world, Atlas is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance and operates in extreme temperatures ranging from -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C).
