Robot overview

MagicBot X1 combines a full-size humanoid body with articulated movement and a dual-battery power system. It is relevant to teams planning a visible robot demonstration, an interaction programme or a development project requiring larger humanoid hardware.

The standard X1 and X1 Ultra serve different requirements. X1 Ultra adds unlocked developer computing and secondary-development support, alongside further compute and perception options.

The Robot Group helps UK organisations compare those versions, establish what the selected configuration provides and plan a practical evaluation.

Technical Breakthroughs

1. Full-size articulation

X1 stands approximately 180 cm tall and weighs around 70 kg, with 31 active degrees of freedom. Seven degrees of freedom in each arm and a three-axis waist support coordinated upper-body and whole-body movement.

2. Battery changes without powering down

The dual-battery system supports hot-swappable replacement without switching the robot off. This helps teams plan successive sessions around battery changes. The operating schedule should still account for the routine, supervision, charging and maintenance requirements.

3. Perception options matched to the application

The standard specification includes stereo vision. X1 Ultra adds head and waist RGB-D cameras, with LiDAR available as an option. We help establish the required sensing configuration for the proposed environment and development work.

4. A choice of onboard AI computing

The standard X1 lists NVIDIA Orin NX AI computing. MagicLab specifies higher computing options for X1 Ultra, up to NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor. Selection should follow the software workload and the interfaces available on the chosen configuration.

5. Development access through X1 Ultra

X1 Ultra provides unlocked developer computing and supports secondary development. The standard X1 does not include that access. For custom software projects, we help clarify the available interfaces, SDK provision and integration scope before the configuration is agreed.

Deployment

+ Scalability

Begin by defining the required routine or application, how it will be operated and how success will be measured. A performance-led project and a software-development project need different evaluation plans.

The Robot Group helps establish:

  • Standard X1 or X1 Ultra and the required development access.
  • Required movements, interaction and operating area.
  • Compute, sensing and software integration requirements.
  • Battery changes, transport, supervision and rehearsals.
  • Acceptance measures, documentation and support arrangements.

A first evaluation should establish which behaviours are repeatable in your setting and what further development is needed before a larger rollout.

UK enquiries and evaluation planning are open. Pricing, delivery and support arrangements are confirmed for each project.
